Name That Tow Boat

Bill Parrott was kind enough to share a tip on a smart phone app that lets you see a map of commercial towboats on the river in real time. The app is called FindShip Lite. On the iTunes App Store, it looks like this:

When you download and open the app, allow it to access Location Services, and soon you’ll see a map of your location with arrowhead-shaped icons that represent commercial vessels. Even the name of the towboat is shown. Here’s a screenshot showing two towboats just upriver from SRYC:

Tap on the boat name to get details about the vessel. What a handy app to have when you are planning a cruise. Is it safe to take the kids tubing downriver? Are there boats waiting for the lock? Just open FindShip Lite and find out!

Anyone else have a tip about a boating-related smartphone app?

Riverbottom Update

From our 2015 hosts, East Peoria Boat Club …

1. Agenda is attached. Wed Pizza, our infamous Cheeseburgers in Paradise with tunes. Friday we will have a beach party, yes a beach party! Just when you thought this was nuts…on Saturday, we have more than one competition going on. Bring your club, participate and have fun.

2. We have more than enough food to go around.

3. Beverages? Anheuser and Miller Brewing companies are now buying stock in our club. The beverages are cold and available.

4. Raffles? 7 day cruise Baby and many additional kick azz raffle items. You can almost spend an entire afternoon seeing what we have.

5. Boat and Camper list – we need to know who is arriving, in what and when. Please use the 2015 Miss Riverbottom Boat-Camper List spreadsheet (examples are on it, please delete these for reference). Fill this out for ALL of your club members that will be in attendance and send this back to me no later than June 13th. This is attached. Print it up, take members names and scan/copy/email/snail mail back to us.

6. The theme is “Still Crazy After all these years”. This crazy competition 38 began years ago, hence the motto, hence the theme. We started the $h#t, game on!!!
