From the Wine Tasting Dock Walk on Saturday to the Blessing of the Fleet on Sunday, it was a beautiful weekend!
Where friends become family, since 1934.
Bill Parrott was kind enough to share a tip on a smart phone app that lets you see a map of commercial towboats on the river in real time. The app is called FindShip Lite. On the iTunes App Store, it looks like this:
When you download and open the app, allow it to access Location Services, and soon you’ll see a map of your location with arrowhead-shaped icons that represent commercial vessels. Even the name of the towboat is shown. Here’s a screenshot showing two towboats just upriver from SRYC:
Tap on the boat name to get details about the vessel. What a handy app to have when you are planning a cruise. Is it safe to take the kids tubing downriver? Are there boats waiting for the lock? Just open FindShip Lite and find out!
Anyone else have a tip about a boating-related smartphone app?
Last Sunday, Patrick Feehan presented the Maritime Legacy Award on behalf of the Illinois River Basin Boating Association to SRYC Charities for the Ron Robb Special People’s Cruise. Patrick’s eloquent speech is shown in the video below.
